The media has dubbed Joe Biden “the most religious president” in our history.
Well, the U.S. Bishops Conference (USCCB) is not buying into that narrative.
This week, Joe Biden issued an Executive Order to once again allow U.S. taxpayer dollars to be used to finance outside groups overseas that promote and/or perform abortions as a form of birth control.
This is a law that was first introduced by the Reagan administration that has been revoked by every Democrat that takes office than reinstated when a Republican takes office, as happened when Trump took over in 2017.
After Biden issued his order, the USCCB stated, “It is grievous that one of President Biden’s first official acts actively promotes the destruction of human lives in developing nations.”
Archbishop Joseph Naumann, chairman of the Bishops’ Committee on Pro-Life Activities, and Bishop David Malloy, chairman of the Committee on International Justice and Peace, continued, “This Executive Order is antithetical to reason, violates human dignity, and is incompatible with Catholic teaching. We and our brother bishops strongly oppose this action.”
They added, “We urge the President to use his office for good, prioritizing the most vulnerable, including unborn children.”
This could be a big problem for Biden moving forward as he was once one of the few Democrats in office that appeared to only support abortion in extreme cases as they are outlined in the Hyde Amendment, but now he also wants to appeal that law.
This all but ensures that abortion will now be a major focus of both the 2022 and 2024 elections, with full support being expected to go behind Republicans by religious groups that flipped and supported Biden simply because they did not like Trump’s personality.
