South Dakota Request for Fireworks on July 4 Denied by National Park Service

During his speech on Thursday, Joe Biden talked about a return to normalcy by July 4.

What is more normal than a massive fireworks display at Mt. Rushmore on Independence Day, right?

Well, that is what Governor Kristi Noem was thinking as well, but a request for fireworks at the monument was declined by the National Park Service (NPS).

We Know Why

When the request was denied, NPS Regional Director Herbert Frost stated, “Potential risks to the park itself and to the health and safety of employees and visitors associated with the fireworks demonstration continue to be a concern and are still being evaluated as a result of the 2020 event.”

He added, “In addition, the park’s many tribal partners expressly oppose fireworks at the Memorial.”

The real reason… my guess is that Biden didn’t want anyone to associate this event with Trump’s 2020 event.

Noem, however, is not taking “no” for an answer.

Through her spokesperson, Noem stated that she “is going to do everything in her ability to ensure that we can celebrate America’s birthday with fireworks at Mount Rushmore.”
