While many establishment Republicans are trying to get as much distance between themselves and Trump as possible, that is not the case with Senator Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.).
Honestly, it is a bit surprising that Graham would openly go up against the likes of Senator McConnell (R-KY) on this as they are cut from the same cloth.
He’ll Be Helpful
In regard to the 2022 elections, Graham stated, “The president is going to be helpful to all Republican incumbents on the Senate.
“We’ve got a great slate of incumbents.”
This was a bit of a bombshell because Graham seems to be hinting that Trump will back incumbents even if he backs a primary challenger and that individual loses to the incumbent.
The only thing I can point to that would allow Graham to make such a statement goes back to something McConnell stated earlier in the week.
When asked if he would support Trump if he won the nomination in 2024, McConnell did not hesitate to say that he would back Trump.
Perhaps the two have already made a backroom deal that anything goes in the primary but come Election Day, they both fight for the party.
