Senator Mitt Romney (R-UT) may be the most despicable form of politician that we have ever seen in our lifetime.
He literally sells himself out for self-serving causes and holds a grudge worse than anyone I have ever seen, and now he is looking for revenge.
Friends to Foes
There was a time when Donald Trump and Mitt Romney were cordial with each other.
When Romney was running against Obama, Trump loaded him up with donations and put all of his support behind him and Romney gladly accepted it.
Romney, however, seemed to quit during the stretch run of an election most believe he should have won easily.
Trump pointed this out regularly in 2016 and he and Romney became instant rivals.
Romney literally endorsed every last candidate standing other than Trump during 2016, and Trump still won.
The rivalry seemed to change after Trump won the election because Romney wanted in to the administration.
At one point, Romney was being mentioned for several cabinet positions, and he and Trump even had dinner and appeared to put their differences aside.
When Trump decided against using Romney, no doubt because he felt he could not trust him, Romney turned and once again started to rail against Trump.
One More Shot
Now a Senator for Utah, many were curious as to how this would all play out with Democrats needing only four votes to have new witnesses called.
Not only do Democrats now appear to have the support of Romney, but there are now reports that Romney is actually serving as a whip for the Democrats to gain support from Republicans to call new witnesses in the impeachment trial.
According to reports, on Monday, Romney met with several Republican Senators behind closed doors during a lunch meeting to pitch them the idea of calling for witnesses.
It also appears that in addition to Romney, Senators Murkowski (R-AK) and Collins (R-ME) are already on board, meaning Romney only needs to persuade one more Republican to allow Democrats to call witnesses.
This push by Romney has not gone unnoticed within the party, with Senator Perdue (R-GA) calling him “Jeff Flake on steroids.”
This could backfire on Romney in two ways…
First, Romney will get little support from Republicans if he decides to run for office again when his current term is up.
Second, if a vote for witnesses does pass, you better believe Joe Biden, Hunter Biden, and Adam Schiff will all be called by Republicans.
If that happens, all bets are off and Republicans are going to go for the throat, leaving Romney and Biden’s remains behind in the process.
No matter how you work this problem, it simply does not end well for Romney and Trump still gets acquitted.
