The city of Chicago, a city with some of the toughest gun laws in the country, has once again turned into a real-life version of the “Hunger Games” over a holiday weekend.
By Sunday night, local police had already responded to more than 30 shootings and five deaths.
Big Crowds, Angry People
To most, Memorial Day Weekend is a time to reflect on those that have given their lives for the freedoms we enjoy in this country.
In Chicago, however, is always seems to signal the opening of a new hunting season of sorts.
City residents take to the streets, get drunk, start fighting, then bullets start to fly.
One person dies, his or her family and/or friends go after the person that shot them, and another person winds up dead in the street.
That is pretty much how it played out in Chicago this weekend.
In one incident, a shooting occurred around 1 a.m. Sunday morning.
When all was said and done, two bodies were lying lifeless in the middle of the 1300 block of West Hastings Street.
Five hours later, another body was left dead on the ground in the same neighborhood.
Police stated, “We do believe that the two shootings from 1 a.m. and 6 a.m. are connected.”
Close by, there was yet another shooting involving five people.
Regarding that incident, police stated, “Multiple weapons have been recovered and detectives believe our offender opened fire on a group of people with a TEC-9 semi-automatic machine pistol.
“Two victims suffered fatal injuries and two others are being treated at an area hospital.”
West Hastings Street
From the reports we read, a significant amount of the activity on Sunday centered around this one area.
Police report being called to the West Hastings Street area on numerous occasions, with larger crowds gathering and tempers flaring.
By late Sunday night, there were a total of 34 shooting victims, with five of them having died from their injuries.
By Monday night, that number had surely increased significantly.
All of this is taking place right in Obama’s backyard and yet the former president remains both silent and completely unable to deter gun violence in his very own city.
