Being a conservative in this country is not easy right now.
Being a minority conservative is even more difficult.
Being a female minority conservative puts a target on your head that has to be lived through to understand.
Candace Owens, who is the Director of Communications at Turning Point USA, is all of those things.
Not Without Controversy
In today’s world, when you are a conservative that is the voice of an organization, you are controversial.
This is a very important factor in understanding the strength of Owens and why conservatives are flocking to her defense right now.
During her recent testimony in front of the House Judiciary Committee on Hate Crimes and the Rise of White Nationalism, the full video of which is at the bottom of this article, Rep. Kenneth Buck (R-CO) shows Owens a memorandum that was provided to the committee members (2:03:33 mark of the video).
The memorandum is prepared by Democrats.
Rep. Buck is quick to point out the difference in how Democrats describe Owens over the other invited guests to the hearing.
Most of the guests are associated with their organizations without any disparaging language.
That, however, is not the case for Owens.
Rep. Buck stated, “Then we get to you… oh my goodness! ‘Candace Owens, Director of Communications at the conservative,’ nobody else is described at progressive or liberal, but you are described as a ‘conservative advocacy group Turning Point USA and a conservative commentator and political activist known for her criticism of Black Lives Matter and the Democrat party.’”
Buck continues to ask Owens question after question about associating with hate groups so she can defend statements made by Nadler at the beginning of the hearing that accused her of exactly that.
The memorandum itself proved how twisted our political system has become in demonizing conservatives, but the treatment of this young lady by some of the members and how she handled it is what is quickly making Owens a legend.
Rep. Ted Lieu
What Rep. Ted Lieu (D-CA) did during the hearing was simply inexcusable.
The behavior of Chairman Nadler was not much better.
Lieu cherry picked a portion of an interview with Owens to make it sound as though she embraced Hitler and his ideology.
Owens was quick to correct him over it, all the while Lieu sat there tapping his fingers with his ears burning red because he knew he has been caught with his hands in the cookie jar.
As Owens was calling out Lieu, Nadler started slamming down his gavel to correct Owens for calling a member of the committee stupid, which she did not do.
After realizing his mistake, Nadler did not even have the sensibility to apologize.
His demeanor as well of that of Lieu are inexcusable. Nobody, conservative or liberal, should be treated this way by elected representatives.

Owens is an exception to the rule today of how the younger generation is getting involved in politics.
She is a perfect example of how the next generation of voters should get involved on both the left and the right.
Personally, I think it is great when these kids take an interest, be it on the liberal or conservative side of the argument. Of course, I would prefer it to be conservative, but even if they are liberal, at least they are taking an interest.
What is dangerous, though, is kids that have just enough knowledge to be dangerous but don’t really know what they are talking about.
If you get involved in a constitutional conversation, you better know the Constitution.
I can point to the comments made earlier in the year by Rep. Ocasio-Cortez where she did not even know the three branches of government.
For a member of Congress not to know a basic fact such as this is inexcusable, but it really is no different than the Chair of the House Finance Committee not knowing the government took over student loans a decade ago and she voted for the takeover. That is a reference to Maxine Waters, in case you missed her blundering interrogation of bank CEOs.
Ms. Owens is being ridiculed by other minorities simply because she is a black conservative and she is actually educated on her cause.
This is not acceptable in any case but even more worrisome because our own political representatives are part of the problem here.
The fact that Owens is able to stand up to this with thick skin and come firing back is beyond admirable.
She deserves every accolade she gets right now not because she is black, not because she is young, not because she is female, and not because she is a conservative.
Owens deserves the accolades because she has taken the time to educate herself on her cause and against considerable scrutiny and threats, she continues to fearlessly make her case and do so convincingly.
If Owens represents the future of this county and the future of conservatism, we are in pretty good shape.
