There still must be something wrong with the water in Michigan, as even the Republican House member from the state is now going after Trump.
Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich) stated he believes Trump has engaged in “impeachable conduct.”
He took it one step further by accusing Barr of purposely misleading the public on the Mueller report.
Call It What It Is
Before we shred Amash’s statements, let’s be clear about what this really is.
Amash is a Republican in a state overflowing with Muslim refugees, illegal immigrants, and liberal bleeding hearts.
Does anyone really expect him to be loyal to the party or the President?
If he wants to get elected, he has to be perceived as a moderate to progressive conservative.
If Amash were to completely back Trump, he could probably kiss his seat goodbye.
You Just Got It Wrong
Social media blew up on Saturday when Amash sent out the following tweet…
Here are my principal conclusions:
1. Attorney General Barr has deliberately misrepresented Mueller’s report.
2. President Trump has engaged in impeachable conduct.
3. Partisanship has eroded our system of checks and balances.
4. Few members of Congress have read the report.— Justin Amash (@justinamash) May 18, 2019
So, let’s take a look at the four points he makes and send him packing.
1 – Attorney General Barr has NOT misled anyone regarding the Mueller report.
He has adamantly stated the letter he sent to the Congress was NOT a summary report but rather the conclusions of the report itself.
The report exonerated Trump on collusion and did not reach a conclusion on obstruction, which is what Barr told Congress.
2 – Amash specifically cited the firing of James Comey as Trump having committed impeachable conduct.
The firing of James Comey was investigated by the Inspector General and was found to be justified. So much for that point.
3 – I would actually tend to agree with him somewhat on this point, but not for the reasons he has stated.
Partisanship has actually destroyed our entire political system to the point the two parties cannot even sit down at a table to work out legislation together on issues where the parties do not completely agree.
Even then, someone usually tries to sneak something in there to piss off the other party.
4 – Amash makes this point because of the statements made so soon after the report came out.
For that reason, he believes “few” members have actually read the full report, but we know this is completely false.
Dozens of members of the House on both sides of the aisle have done credible interviews pulling obscure context out of the report, which more or less proves they read it.
Obviously, everyone is not interpreting it the same, but please get off your high horse Mr. Amash. You are NOT the only person that read that report cover to cover.
I read the entire thing during a hockey game, so I am pretty sure a majority of House members have read the entire report.
Amash got what he wanted, though, which was support from his fellow Michigan House member, Rep. Tlaib.
She even invited him to a cozy meeting to join him in her impeachment resolution against Trump.
There was a time when Amash had a bright future as a conservative, but he might as well change parties now if he expects to go anywhere in politics because his days as a member of the GOP are numbered.
