Attorney General William Barr has been getting hammered by Democrats and now Fox News’ Chris Wallace is adding a bit more fuel to the fire.
Wallace called Barr’s decision regarding obstruction charges both “troubling” and “politically charged.”
The Decision
Mueller, as everyone now knows, did not reach a conclusion on the obstruction charges against Trump.
He did, however, use some very ambiguous wording that has more or less allowed each side to reach completely opposite conclusions.
Barr, however, has the benefit of seeing the actual evidence as well as having talked to Trump for further clarification about what had happened.
After gathering that information, Barr reached the conclusion that Trump did not have intent, nor was there enough evidence to pursue an indictment for obstruction.
Once the redacted version of the report was released, though, liberals and Democrats have taken their interpretation to be the worst possible case scenario for Trump and thereby making Barr’s decision seems as though he had Trump’s best interests at heart rather than justice.
Wallace stated that Barr’s conclusion “seems even more troubling, and perhaps even more politically charged when you read the report.”
The comments made by Wallace opened the door to even more criticism of Barr, who is just getting raked over the coals right now.
This Will Be Drug Out
Now that Democrats have issued subpoenas for the unredacted version of the report and all supporting documentation, get ready to dig in for a major battle.
First and foremost, I don’t really expect Barr to hand over the documents from a congressional subpoena.
They hold about as much weight as a matchbook cover these days.
However, it is a very safe assumption that after Barr refuses to turn over an unredacted version, Democrats will take this to the courts, ultimately leading to the Supreme Court.
On the surface, Barr has the law on his side.
Grand jury testimony is protected by law. However, this has not stopped the Justice Department from releasing it a closed committee hearing in the past.
With the attacks against Mueller by both the media and Democrats, he does not exactly have the incentive to make things easy on Dems.
While Trump was originally willing to have an unredacted report released, the attacks by Dems have probably changed his stance as well.
In other words, this is going to follow Trump for at least the next two years and well into his second term if he wins re-election.
