New York City Reverses Decision to Shut Down Trump-managed Skating Rinks

Over the weekend, it was announced that New York City Mayor de Blasio has canceled all the city contracts with the Trump organization.

Two of those contracts were for managing local ice rinks even though the season is not quite over.

After significant pushback, the city has reversed its decision and will now allow the Trump Organization to finish out the season before officially terminating the contract.

Finish the Season

When the news first broke, let’s just say parents were not happy that their children’s entertainment was being used as a political football by de Blasio.

One parent, Lee Klausner, stated, “The real people they’re hurting are the 2,500 children that have been benefiting from the skating program this season and 250 innocent employees who have been keeping this going for us.”

Her point was exactly the point that Eric Trump had made when he was told to close up shop.

Clearly, he was elated at the news…

The de Blasio administration did not show as much class, however.

City Hall Press Secretary Bill Neidhardt stated, “New York City kids deserve all the time on the ice they can get this year.

“The Wollman and Lasker rinks will stay open under current management for the few weeks left in this season.”

Then he took his cheap shot, stating, “But make no mistake, we will not be doing business with the Trump Organization going forward. Inciting an insurrection will never be forgotten or forgiven.”
