While Democrats are getting ready to go toe-to-toe in a primary, President Trump is getting loaded for bear.
Without very much fanfare, President Trump has already built up a war chest of more than $20 million for the 2020 presidential election.
Getting a Quick Jump
Trump was not even at the end of his first day in office when the paperwork was filed with the FEC for his re-election bid.
This enabled Trump to get a huge jump on his opponent, as the Trump campaign has literally been fundraising since his first day in office.
The Trump campaign alone had already raised more than $67 million by the end of 2018.
Even with ads and rallies dipping into the till, the campaign still has about $20 million in hand and ready to go.
That is not the end of the money train, though.
Two major groups supporting Trump have also been hard at work, almost doubling Trump’s war chest with their efforts.
Combined, it is believed that Trump has more than $35 million available with about $95 million having already been spent.
If you need a spot of reference, by this time in his administration, Obama had only raised about $4 million.
Lessons Learned
The Trump campaign team learned some hard lessons during the 2016 campaign.
With the lack of funding and the gaffes by various team members, it is quite amazing Trump was ever able to pull this off.
Honestly, if it were not for his own social media efforts, it probably never would have happened.
But, as they say, lessons learned, let’s move forward, and move forward the team has done.
Michael Glassner, chief operating officer of Trump’s campaign, stated, “Our state-of-the-art campaign operation puts us in the in best possible position heading into the 2020 re-election campaign.”
One of the weakest aspects of Trump’s campaign in 2016 was the ground game.
It is widely believed the disparity between Cruz’s team and Trump’s team are what kept Cruz in the race for as long as he was.
There is little doubt the effort put forth in 2020 will be much stronger, making Trump a formidable opponent regardless of whom the Democrats nominate.
If you think Trump’s attacks against Hillary were bad, his next opponent is going to face a tsunami on both social media and the regular media outlets.
There is going to be a LOT more money and Trump will have a huge advantage in not having to worry about a primary.
His team will be able to promote their candidate while the Democrat race plays out and then once the nomination is won, they will be able to pounce the second the vote becomes official.
We can expect the airwaves and social media to be absolutely saturated with Trump ads and attacks from day one once his opponent has been identified.
This will probably make the 2016 presidential election look like a pillow fight.
