Watching our politicians debate the coronavirus relief package right now is like watching a group of petulant children fight over the right to use the hopscotch board in the playground.
As more information is becoming available, though, it certainly appears as though Democrats are using this crisis as a way to force their agenda through.
Stop the Nonsense
It has been a long time since Senator Mitch McConnell (R-KY) has been this upset on the Senate floor.
Early in the day, it appeared as though the relief legislation would be headed to the desk of our president.
Instead, reports are now surfacing that House Speaker Pelosi (D-CA) and Senate Minority Leader Schumer (D-N.Y.) are pushing partisan issues in this legislation.
Their thought process seems to be that due to the crisis, they can refuse to pass any bill unless it includes these measures, but McConnell is not giving in.
He stated, “They ought to be embarrassed.
“This is no time for this nonsense.”
Democrats, of course, have fought back, but the reports that are breaking tend to show that Republicans are right in this argument.
TownHall.com reported that certain stipulations in the legislation included collective bargaining for unions, fuel emissions, and wind and solar tax credits, issues that have nothing at all to do with this crisis.
Senator Tom Cotton (R-AR) confirmed this report to be true on Twitter…
This report is correct. Pelosi & Schumer are willing to risk your life, your job, your retirement savings for a radical, left-wing wish list that has nothing to do with this virus. Disgraceful. https://t.co/le9jlTB4KH

The fact that Senator Susan Collins, someone who has regularly walked the line on legislation, is going off on Schumer, should be a true wakeup call for everyone…
Sen. Susan Collins rips Chuck Schumer for delaying action on the relief bill:
“The Democratic leader objected to my even being able to speak this morning? Is that what we’ve come to?”

This is what we need:
- Dry, nonpartisan legislation to offer relief for businesses
- Stipulation for major corporations to ensure they are not using the money for buybacks or bonuses for a specific time frame after they accept the money
- Ensure small business owners are using the money to pay for their everyday business costs (rent, payroll, business-related credit card bills) as well as an allotment for their own income
So, how hard is that?
Sadly, our politicians don’t see it that way, though, but that is because they are all receiving a paycheck and their jobs and futures are not in jeopardy in any way.
